- I saw Science of Sleep. A sweet idiosyncratic movie. Has Gael Garcia Bernal of Amores Perros and Y Tu Mama Tambien fame. It is weirdly humorous and bittersweet. Its a French production, so there is quite a bit of people speaking French. As you might think, its more on the arty side, and not a mainstream blockbuster type release. The Illusionist rocks too. The story is totally tight and gripping. The Covenant is a piece of shit.

- Science of Sleep has made me want to go back to France. I want to listen to people speak French. My French is too horrible to speak in, but is decent enough to pick up stray words and decipher meaning. And, I sorta like listening to people speak French. I want to go back to Lyon. Cathedral Fouvier. Perrache. Saone. Frankfurt will also be fun. Europe looks so classy in the winter. Darkness descending, with lights here and lights there, snow falling over the cathedrals and narrow lanes, shapes moving in the shadows.....you feel like you are in a WWII movie.

- I am likely to find employment with an exotic derivatives group. Usually, when nobody knows wtfigo (what the fish is going on), complex math comes into the picture. There is a lot of complex math in this stuff. Most earth shaking financial catastrophies (Barings for e.g, when Nick Leeson vaporized a tonne) come from the folks engaging in random fun with derivatives. Derivatives are like stock, except that you can make ginormous bets putting up close to no cash => lots of people get baited doing stupid things. The average lifetime of a derivatives trader is 3 years, in the business that is, I wouldn't think he commits suicide.

I've seen Y Tu Mama Tambien, but none of the others. I hope you get to go backpacking in Europe someday like you wanted to :)

Your finance world is too different from our poor indian graduate student world. You should be fraternizing with wall street millionaires, not people like us!

Y Tu Mama Tambien is one graphic movie. Kind of liked it. Liked Amores Perros (or 21 grams better)...
Well, I was in Lyon for a semester, in the summer of 2004. It would be nice to go back to the same place and see how things are. Nostalgic value.
Ha! I am currently a poor indian graduate. With taking up the job, the student thing has disappered, so the thin shred of respect I had has also gone :)..

someday your photo might get on my site without me even knowing you ... you run that risk .. if I dont know you!

I totally love street photography - you see ... even though I get the most positive responses on architectural photos --- but for me a bigger challenge is street photos. And streets of chicago, you cannot avoid ...

France is really a beauty. French language is another beauty. I think everytime I step out of the house and i see these Central European buildings, I get this feeling of actually being part of some kind of historical moment. Hitler walked through this path..Kept a 1000 ppl in concentration camp here.

There is so much depth in every stone that lies here..It has seen pain, it has seen real misery, a hopeless martyrdom it had to give when west sweeped with their high-tech bombs.

Chilling...yet, I must say.. after a while..Depressing.

[intern] heh...well not so likely because i am hardly ever on the street :)...

[divster] Yeah, I like France. Thats pretty weird. I never really thought about it that way though. Heh..thats a pretty melodramatic description :)..
